DimeStories

DimeStories started in October, 2004 when Gina Cameron, President of San Diego Writers, Ink invited me to start an open mic that was prose only. With so many poetry open mics out there, I loved the idea and said I would do it under two conditions: 1) there could be no featured readers like all the poetry open mics I had been to, and 2) the readers can only read for 3 minutes. The SDWInk Board was a little leery about these rules, but I said let me try it for three months and if it’s not a go then we can change it. Eighteen years later, four chapters in the West, and three Executive Directors, it seems to be working. I resigned 7 years in, and Jennifer Simpson took over as Executive Director until she passed in 2020. Carrie Danielson is now at the helm and creating community that lasts. I hope you’ll show up to read at one of the chapters or check out one of the Zoom opportunities. And, remember, 3 minutes means 3 minutes!
